You Know, On Second Thought, Screw The List
I WAS TALKING to my Dad about all the problems I've been having with my old manager and getting a new job, and he surprised me by actually making me feel better; it should be noted that my father usually gives advice, as well meant as it may be, by yelling and insulting me, so these moments are much appreciated.
He said two things in particular. The first was that if I wanted him to he would go down to Ruby Tuesday and threaten to kick Fred's ass if he kept bullying me around -- a threat he claimed that no one has, as of yet, called him on, but one that he promised he would deliver.
The second thing he said was in response to my worries that Fred could just say bad things about me to every person that I tried to get a job from, effectively ruining my college career. He said, "There is nothing he can do to hurt Cody Walker."
I laughed in disagreement.
"No," he said again. "There is nothing he can do to hurt Cody Walker. And I'm not saying that to feed your ego, I'm just saying it as a fact. Don't concern yourself with him. He doesn't have any power."
And I guess that got me thinking. I was going to keep calling the district manager, complaining until I got a response, until I realized that they were the ones that lost me, not the other way around.
